Lake County Chiefs of Police - Gun Buy Back Program

Saturday, December 15th and Sunday, December 16th, 2001

11:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M.

The Kildeer Police Department needs your help in getting unwanted guns out of the hands of wrongdoers by reducing the number of firearms in circulation. The Kildeer Police Department will be participating in the Lake County Gun Buy Back program scheduled for Saturday, December 15th and Sunday, December 16th, 2001. This program can help prevent accidental shootings, gun suicides, gun homicides, and unauthorized gun use. You are encouraged to bring your unwanted firearms to one of the five drop off locations listed below. You will receive a $50.00 gift certificate redeemable at a Lake County food or department store and a stuffed animal from a major manufacturer.

All firearms should be unloaded, (if you have experience and can do so safely) and placed in a gun case or bag and transported in the trunk of a car or non-accessible area of a van or pickup truck.

Upon arrival at the turn-in site, enter the site without the firearm and advise one of the uniformed officers that you have a firearm to be turned in. The officer will walk you to your vehicle and retrieve the weapon.

If you live in the Village of Kildeer or Deer Park and are unfamiliar with firearms or the unloading of firearms, or if you need a ride to a turn-in location, call the Kildeer Police Department and an officer will be dispatched to your home to assist.

If you are unable to leave your home and you live in the Village of Kildeer or Deer Park, a police officer will be dispatched and retrieve the firearm. The officer will complete the necessary paperwork and return with the $50.00 gift certificate and stuffed animal.

All firearms and accessories will be destroyed. There will be a limit of $200.00 per person for this program.
