CRIME PREVENTION ALERTSThe Kildeer Police Department will issue crime prevention alerts when the need arises. These alerts are informational items for Kildeer and Deer Park residents that will help them maintain the safety and quality of life that they now enjoy. CRIME PREVENTION ALERT - September 7, 2001The Kildeer Police Department has been made aware of a scam involving door to door solicitation for funds by subjects in their late teens and early twenties. Typically, these solicitors will approach the homeowner, stating that they are from the local neighborhood and solicit money for various causes such as the sale of magazine subscriptions for college tuition programs. Although the sales themselves appear legitimate, the solicitors use this ruse to avoid complaints to the police about solicitors. Since door to door soliciting of this type is illegal except for registered charitable organizations, political action groups, or similar organizations, these people have been able to count on the general neighborhood goodwill of Kildeer and Deer Park residents to avoid contact with the police. Please be aware that these people ARE NOT YOUR NEIGHBORS. If you have contact with solicitors using this ruse, please notify the Kildeer Police Department immediately at (847) 438-6010. |
